Making a Perfect Lawn

You can tell its summer when you wake up to the sound of lawn mowers and the smell of fresh cut grass. My
neighbors are always eying up each other’s lawns to see who is a better green thumb. It seems that 1 out of 10
lawns are amazing and the 9 that aren’t, are really disappointing. I see a lot of people struggling with making and
keeping a beautiful lawn. For a lot of people, artificial grass or paving over it would seem like the best
option.

You may be sold on a fact that says the perfect lawn needs expensive fertilizers, top notch equipment, and magic
solutions. But in fact, a great lawn involves a lot of elbow grease.
You may be inclined to hire a professional lawn service and they may in fact help you get a better looking lawn.
However, there are some small tips aside from the hard work that will enable you to battle for the perfect
lawn.
First, the type of grass and its care will depend on your location and climate. In the southern regions of North
America they prefer to use the centipede grass. In places with a colder climate, like in Canada, they prefer to mix
the different types of grass. This helps produce that thick carpet of beautiful grass. The best place to determine
the type of grass you should use would be at a plant nursery. Or you could politely as someone the type of grass
they use on their lawn.
When mowing your grass it is important not to cut it as short as possible and should cut it in the evening.
These two things combined will help keep your grass from burning under the hot summer sun. It is also a good idea
to remove grass cuttings and rake the lawn when finished. This helps remove the grass clippings that would
otherwise rot and decompose on top. It is similar to washing your hair to remove the dirt, flakes, and oils that
build up. It can also give grass pests the opportunity to make a new home on your lawn.
If you notice the grass at golf courses, one of the things they do to keep it ripe is aerate the soil. Aeration
really promotes the roots of grass to grow and helps get nutrients directly to them as well.

Did you know that over watering and watering too little can harm your grass? Grass is pretty tough but you must
make sure that you don’t drench it every single day. A couple of times per week should be more than enough water
and if it is a rainy season then even less is required. As long as the roots of the grass are getting wet, that
should be sufficient.
And finally, fertilizing and weeding your lawn is another important aspect. Again, depending on your location
and grass type, different fertilizers will be required. Some are designed to kill weeds but make sure you follow
the directions to a tea. Most require to be sprayed when the temperature is warm enough and some others only need
to be done once a month.
Many people try to hide weeds by mowing or using a weed eater. However, this doesn’t remove the problem. Weeds
will have to be completely removed and disposed of in the trash or composting area. After spending some serious
attention to your lawn, you will see great benefits and be at the top of your neighborhood.
