Weed eaters, also known as weed wackers, and come in many different styles. Of course you should know the difference between the battery powered, electrical, and gas powered trimmers. Knowing the differences between them will help you better suit to your specific needs without over or under killing it. But one of the lesser things looked at is the difference between straight and curved shafts. So let’s take a quick look.

The straight shaft style of trimmer has been the traditional choice for many professional lawn care services. Compared to the curved shafts, the straight shaft is able to take on more heavy duty tasks such as thick brush and tall weeds. Interestingly enough, the straight shaft also has a bit more reach and is able to handle attachments like hedge trimmer blades. Some models are more expensive but that goes without saying. Taller people like me tend to go for the straight shaft because it keeps the weed eater farther from my body and I don’t have to bend over as much.

On the other hand, curve shaft weed eaters are made to be comfortable for the average person. The claims are that they give you more flexibility and able to maneuver easier. The curved shaft designs also are able to keep the trimmings away from you rather than on your boots. Another advantage is that they are typically lighter in weight and easier to handle all day long. If you are a shorter person then you will benefit from the curved shaft much more than I would.

Although this isn’t exactly something to make an absolute choice over, it is very important to consider in the overall grand scheme of things. The more you know about the tools you are using, the better it will be and the more work will get done.
